"I guess being a firefighter might go hand in hand with being good with dogs," Matt smiled. He had a lot of respect for first responders, and Kate had only ever spoken fondly about this one. "Honestly, the job sounded cool when I was younger. Ride around on a truck, save lives, hang with dalmatians. It's probably not so glamorous in real life, but good to know the dog part isn't entirely off base." He still didn't quite understand LARPing, other than dressing up like characters, but he was doing his best to understand such an important part of Kate's world. It was clearly a community in and of itself, and communities meant so much.
"Oh, I've had churros plenty of times," he assured Kate, clarifying. "It's how something is made that makes the difference. If it has a ton of processed chemicals or unbalanced flavors and poor quality ingredients, I can taste that. It's not that I hate sugar in and of itself, you know I keep ice cream in the freezer." Matt had a sweet tooth and he wasn't afraid to admit to it. "I just need it to be made with clean ingredients. Now, I try and eat healthy most of the time, but I treat myself every so often to dessert. Hence the ice cream. I probably had churros a year or so ago." He'd sometimes gone to fairs with Foggy and Karen. "Like I said, the words 'fried' and 'sugary' just made me think of them, not that I've never had them."
"No on the ketchup, yes on the coffee. And if you usually put siracha on it, then let's do it. I want the full Kate burger experience. If my stomach hates me later I'll blame myself for it." He smiled at her, she had to know that he'd take what she said as a dare whether she meant it that way or not.
