I've never really had a need for a guest room, so I guess I don't mind. Anytime I haven't shared a bed I've just let someone take mine while I crashed on the couch. It's not like I have a lot of friends to visit.
Intimidating I don't mind. Well. Unless there are kids. I try not to be then.
