You don't owe me anything. I was mad at you for...a while, but I get it. I really do. Losing people never gets easier. Losing someone like Foggy is just - impossible to try to navigate.
After all we've been through together, of course I owe you something. I don't expect it to be reciprocated, so don't worry about that if you don't, but I certainly feel it on my end towards you.
We have been through a lot together, but it doesn't mean you owe me anything. I always think of owing someone as like a favor, you know? I want you in my life just because of who you are and I want you to want to be in it.
We just see it differently, then. I see owing someone as more than just a favor and not required to be burdensome. When someone matters to me, it also matters to let that be shown in ways that they feel supported and appreciated. Since I value them in my life, I owe it to them to be a person that is worth being in their life. We can quibble over whether the word has to be "owed" in that sentence, but I don't mind using it since I don't think it's inherently negative.
Might be your lucky day, Murdock. Because I get where you're coming from when I read it like that. You're absolutely worth having in my life. The only question I have left is what will we do with the extra time we got back by not having to bicker about the meaning of "owe"?
